To work in radiography, nuclear medicine, or radiation therapy, a two-year license may be granted. The licenses are administered by the State of New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. The state also issues limited licenses that allow someone to work in specific areas such as dental or podiatric radiologic technology. To get a license, students must complete an appropriate course of study and then pass the exam set by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). For nuclear medicine licensing, the exam given by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board may be substituted for that given by the ARRT.
